Deaflympics Gold-Medal Hockey Team Features Child’s Voice Alum

Students at Child’s Voice cheered on alum Ryne Krueger of Barrington and his hockey team during their gold medal-earning trip to the Deaflympics, held in December 2019 in Valtellina-Valchiavenna Italy.

The USA team beat Canada on December 21. The Canadian team scored the first goal, but the USA took the lead and never let go, winning 7-3, according to the Daily Moth Deaf News.

Current Child’s Voice students wanted Ryne and his team to know how much support he was getting from back home. The kids sent the team a “Go USA!” video on the day of the gold-medal game.

Krueger was never too busy to represent Child’s Voice, posing with mascot Smiley during his time off the ice.

Child’s Voice, based in Wood Dale and the Roscoe Village neighborhood in Chicago, helps children with hearing loss learn to listen and to speak. Students wear hearing aids and/or cochlear implants, and programs use a child-focused, research-based curriculum, all with the end goal of transitioning graduates back to their neighborhood schools. The Child’s Voice program serves nearly 400 children and their families each year.
