Did you know that almost 50% of dog bites are to children 12 and under? It’s important to teach your kids to be safe around all dogs, even their own, because education is the number one method of dog bite prevention.
Read these four tips about keeping kids safe around their furry friends.
- Respect the dog’s space. Never stand over a dog or stare at the dog while hovering over him.
- Avoid rough play. Kids shouldn’t get in a dog’s face or grab their tail, ears, fur, etc.
- Always supervise. Children under the age of 12 should never be left alone with a dog.
- Ask before petting. Kids should be taught to always ask the pet parent before touching or petting a dog they encounter.
