Emergency Access Plan for Good Shepherd Hospital Announced

Route 22 to be closed from Old Barrington Road to Harbor Road for all other traffic

LAKE BARRINGTON – The Village of Lake Barrington is pleased to announce that an agreement has been reached by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), the Deputy Governor’s office, and Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods) that will protect emergency access to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital throughout the construction on Route 22.

The Route 22 construction plan includes:

  • Maintaining one open lane between Old Barrington Road and Harbor Road to allow vehicles traveling from the east access to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in emergency situations.
  • Stationing a 24 hour flagger on Route 22 in order to grant access to individuals traveling to the hospital’s emergency room.
  • Positioning a series of signs on Route 22 with instructions for individuals seeking emergency care from Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
  • Providing detour instructions for all other vehicles traveling on Route 22.

“Throughout these discussions, the Village’s first priority has been the safety of the public. We appreciate the leadership demonstrated by Sen. Dan McConchie (R-Hawthorn Woods), Deputy Gov. Christian Mitchell, and IDOT in working to create a solution that will allow single lane access for those seeking emergency attention at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. This agreement will ensure those in need of emergency care will maintain time-efficient access to the hospital,” said Lake Barrington Village President, Kevin Richardson.

As a level II trauma center, Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital receives 600 to 700 ambulance visits per month. In addition, the hospital participates in 350 pediatric transfers per year. Without this agreement, those seeking emergency attention could have experienced 15 to 20 minute delays during the construction process.

“Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital is dedicated to ensuring quality care to our patients. In emergency situations every minute counts, which is why we support the actions taken by all stakeholders to ensure our patients timely access during the planned construction on Route 22,” said Karen Lambert, president of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
