Emotional Video Shows Barrington High Students With Down Syndrome Picked as Homecoming King, Queen

Talia Kotel and Matt Rodgers have been selected as the 2016 Homecoming King and Queen for Barrington High School.

BARRINGTON, IL - It was an emotional school assembly at Barrington High School on Friday when two students with Down Syndrome were announced as this year’s Homecoming King and Queen.

There were tears and hugs for Talia Kotel and Matt Rodgers when they were announced as the 2016 Homecoming King and Queen. Students gathered during an assembly in the high school’s gymnasium on Friday where the nominees for king and queen were each given a box to open in front of their peers. Those who earned the coveted title of King and Queen had blue balloons inside. The crowd erupted with cheers when blue balloons were presented for Talia and Matt.

During the homecoming parade on Saturday, Matt and Talia rode in a horse-drawn carriage.
