OMG I love my MacBook Pro! It survived the tsunami brought on by my daughter, Ashley. She is known for spilling her drinks & anyone else that sits by her. You can almost always count on it when we go out to eat! Well, she was sitting down to the dinner table when she shoved her books & knocked over her full, 32oz glass of water onto my laptop! I looked up just as she gasped & had that horrified look like..."did I do that"? I ran over and turned my computer on its side and water was just 'pouring' out of the ports. I grabbed a towel and drove it to the Apple Store as if I was a mother rushing her child to the ER. All I could think of was "OMG, I haven't backed up in weeks! My photos, clients cakes, etc." They said there was still water standing inside the computer cavity! They offered to service it for a mere $1,100+ baring what they find! So much for AppleCare, it doesn't cover hiccups brought on by life, only defective parts. Well who needs that, they are like Toyota, they run forever!
Anyway, I thought of the Blackberry I once swam with & that was fixed by putting it in a box or rice so why not give it a shot with my computer & possibly save $1,200. So I ran home, cranked up the fireplace & put it in front of it to create some dry heat. I taped up the ports the next day, poked a few holes in the tape and put my laptop in a cardboard box bull of rice. 5 days later, it turned on and it has worked great every since! So, I learned a few things - 1. Don't ever put my laptop near my kids 2. Apple computers rock & 3. Another reason to have an extra bag of white rice in the pantry, thank you Uncle Bens! Up next on the menu, a restaurant review - Real Urban BBQ, Lincolnshire.
