May First Friday Art Show Featuring D47 Schools

Looking for a unique local event to enjoy with your family and
friends? You do not have to travel far from home for a night full of culture,
music and art. On Friday, May 2nd at 5pm until 8pm the public is welcome at the
First Friday Art Show at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake, IL. The
monthly art show is free to attend, and donations are appreciated as Lakeside
and the Historic Dole Mansion is a 501(c)3 charitable organization. The May 2nd
event features music and artwork from the Crystal Lake D47 schools. Guests will
be in awe by the talents of these student artists and musicians! The event is a
great opportunity to celebrate local art education, explore the Dole Mansion
and Arts Park, and enjoy complimentary appetizers and a cash bar. May 2nd also
includes coloring and origami stations, and desserts by Just 4 You Treats. The
Dole and Sage galleries are complimented by an additional lobby installation
from the twelve D47 schools featuring commemorative stamps designed to
represent the 100 years of the City of a Crystal Lake! The stamps of all 12
schools have been rotating in the lobby of the Crystal Lake, and for the month
of May will be at Lakeside!

"The Annual D47 art exhibit is a favorite for Lakeside! It
showcases extraordinary student artwork and the teachers who inspire the
creativity! When you walk around the galleries, you will be blown away to see
the talent from young artists," remarked Siobhan Cottone, Lakeside's
Executive Director. Art is an universal language, and this exhibit expresses
creativity through the eyes of children. Art and music education is vital to
the learning environment and Lakesides mission and vision is to be an
innovative community arts center that is a destination that enriches the human
spirit through the arts. The May 2nd exhibit will do exactly that!

The themes of the Dole and Sage Galleries student artwork is diverse.
The Centennial postage stamps are each unique. The primary students grades
K-2nd created birthday cakes, while the intermediate drew stamps inspired by
city landmarks from vintage photos. West School students were inspired by
Vincent Van Gogh's 'Starry Night' painting and used this famous image to depict
the Historic Dole Mansion. Van Gogh's imagination envisioned a vast colorful
night sky transformed by swords of colors. The West School stamp used this
imagery because the City of Crystal Lake has transformed over the 100 years.
West picked to represent the Dole Mansion and Lakeside Legacy Arts Park because
they felt it was the most historically significant structure in Crystal Lake.
Also going with the theme from Van Gogh, the property has been transformed, and
now this once iconic private residence and Crystal Lake's first Country Club is
now a place for art and music! View this remarkable stamp and the other 11 at
the May 2nd First Friday!
