Miss-leading Teachers salaries

Teachers salaries

In your August 29th article entitled

How Much are Your Childrens’ Teachers Making?

Are they being over- or underpaid for their services?

you write:

Below is a small sampling of average teacher salaries at some of the state’s largest school districts.

For example for Schaumburg you show:

· Schaumburg CCSD 54 $42,365/$50,182/14,083

Figures that are explained to be $42,365 for Baccalaureates and $50,182 for Masters degrees, in a district of 14,083 students.

But if you look at the actual Reboot Illinois text, it is clear that these are not average salaries, they are just starting salaries. Using the same source data used by Reboot Illinois, I get average salaries for Schaumburg to be $53,554 for baccalaureate and $79,141 for Masters degree.

By omitting the word “starting,” you have misrepresented the Reboot article, you have misled the readers into thinking their teachers are being underpaid, and you may have discouraged prospective teachers.
