“There is a time for some things, and a time for all things; a time for great things, and a time for small things.” ―

Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, Don Quixote

Chess Without Borders believes that social entrepreneurship can be cultivated in childhood when "there is a time for small things that lead to great things". Children are naturally drawn to ideas and creative ventures. They need help implementing them and that is where the team at Chess Without Borders steps in to provide a wealth of investment and support in growing their ventures. Since its inception the chess program in Barrington which itself was a social entrepreneurial idea that grew into a successful award winning program, has nurtured youth social entrepreneurship. Youth have raised funds through a unusual variety of methods raising over $216,000 for donations to local and global charities.

This lunch is made possible by the collaboration of Barrington United Methodist Church and Salem United Methodist Church and support from Exelon. About 20 volunteers travel to Chicago to serve the meal and distribute gifts. Chess Without Borders has supported this charity for 8 years.

Here is a video of the Christmas lunch held a few years ago prior to Covid:

In addition Prerith will sell "Zeins Spices" to raise funds for the Christmas lunch as well. Pririth will work on marketing, PR and publicity to learn the challenges of bringing a product to market. The spices are made by gourmet cook Zein Bertacchi who has been a dedicated volunteer for Chess Without Borders. They can be used on any food to bring life to a dish. After expenses all proceeds will be donated to charity.

Please consider donating items or volunteering at the event or joining Chess Without Borders for a meal at The Roslyn Chess Tournament on Saturday 12th of November were 100 % of the food sold will be donated towards providing a Christmas meal.
