Wellness Place Community Cancer Walk on May 18

This year’s Wellness Place Community Cancer Walk/Celebration at the Arboretum of South Barrington will be like none before it. For the fifth annual event on Sunday, May 18, Wellness Place will modify its program slightly to focus on a commemorative one mile walk with a grand celebration of life and hope.  The event will be punctuated with an inspirational memorial balloon release and special performance by popular local rock band, Modern Day Romeos.

“A journey through cancer can make any one of us feel alone,” said LeeAnn Atwood, marketing director of Wellness Place. “At Wellness Place, it is our hope that cancer survivors, their caregivers and families never feel alone. This walk has a magical way of illustrating that support is available and accessible, free of charge to people throughout the northwest suburbs,” she added.

This year’s event will focus primarily on the camaraderie and inspiration created through a traditional one mile walk honoring survivors, families and friends.  The ceremonial balloon release provides another visual experience to celebrate life while providing poignant remembrance to those who have been lost. “Having family members at the event and signing balloons in my honor, was a wonderful way to show their support of me,” said Kathy Brazas, Wellness Place participant and breast cancer survivor. “I know this year is going to be bigger and better because we are all planning on attending!”
