For the past 7 years youth and their adult mentors at Chess Without Borders collaborated with Barrington and Salem United Methodist Churches to raise funds and collect toys, winter clothing and gifts for this vulnerable population. Observing their commitment and social entrepreneurial skills Rev Tommie Johnson the Executive Director invited them to serve on the advisory board along with other talented youth. Most of these youth honed their marketing, public speaking and tech skills while volunteering at Chess Without Borders since they were young. By working on long term projects such as establishing a computer center or educational program in the slums of Delhi, India they faced challenges and needed to reach goals to accomplish their projects. Together they donated over $200,000 for local and global charities. They have won many awards and been delegates to the UN Youth Assembly in New York. This position as a board members will challenge them and further advance their skills.
