Artists Invited To Apply For 2 Public Art Projects In Batavia (patch.com) — Batavia artists and residents are being invited to help shape two new public art projects, including a large America 250 mural on City Hall and painted benches made from upcycled wind turbine blades in the new River Street Plaza. Illinois-based artists can apply for paid commissions, with installations planned for summer 2026 and community engagement built into the design process.

Man Found Dead In Batavia Apartment ID'd: Reports (patch.com) — Batavia residents are learning more about a recent death investigation after officials identified the man found dead in an East Wilson Street apartment as 29-year-old Darioun C. Smith. Police say they discovered him inside and a 27-year-old injured woman outside after a 3:50 a.m. 911 call, and report that the two knew each other while withholding further details.
3. Great Dane Gives Birth to 19 Puppies During Unplanned C-Section (people.com) — Batavia is home to a record-setting Great Dane mom: Piper recently delivered 19 healthy puppies via an unplanned C-section, with 10 females and 9 males. The pups, born at Paws and Claws Animal Hospital and owned by a Batavia-area breeder, are getting round-the-clock bottle feeding and monitoring to keep every one thriving.
4. Girls track and field: Huntley hitting higher gear after winning Tiger invitational (dailyherald.com) — Batavia High School’s girls track team grabbed a highlight at the Tiger Invitational, with its 4x200 relay squad of Elizabeth Wende, Brooke Berggren, Abby Wirth, and Temperance Carter winning in 1:45.51. The Bulldogs’ strong relay showing came as Huntley captured the overall team title and several area athletes posted season-best performances in chilly conditions.
5. Fermilab completes its part in upgrading world's most powerful X-ray laser (fnal.gov) — Batavia-based Fermilab has finished building and shipping its final superconducting cryomodule for a major upgrade to the world’s most powerful X-ray laser at SLAC in California. The decade-long project, launched from Fermilab’s Batavia campus, strengthens the lab’s role in global accelerator science and paves the way for future work like the Proton Improvement Plan-II and neutrino research.
