BATAVIA, IL — After Batavia High School's boys' track and field team clinched the first state championship title in program history May 28, City Council honored the team at Monday night's meeting.

It wasn't the only time the city celebrated the team. On Sunday, Batavia residents and community members gathered at Pal Joey's to host an open house.

"It's not very often we get State Trophies so this is very special for our school and community," Athletic Director Dave Andrews said in a statement ahead of the event. "Spring sports lose out on a lot of celebrations because of the timing of the school year."
