Batavia Police Officer Retires After 25 Years With Department

BATAVIA, IL — Batavia Mayor Jeff Schielke, along with city staff and colleagues Friday congratulated Officer George (Tony) Gramme on his retirement after 25 years with the Batavia Police Department. Gramme began his career in 1993 when he joined the Batavia Police Auxiliary and was then hired as a full-time officer in September 1997.

During his career, he held positions in both the patrol division and the investigations unit. As a detective, Gramme became a specialist in narcotics investigation and enforcement, serving on several narcotics task forces throughout Kane County.

An award-winning officer, Gramme was twice selected Batavia Police Officer of the Year and was nominated several times. He has been a mentor and a role model to new officers, readily sharing his law enforcement knowledge and passion for the job – a passion that led to his becoming a field training officer and master patrol officer.

Gramme made the Batavia Police Department part of his family. He met his wife Corey, a records technician, while working for the department. She retired from the department earlier this summer.
