Schools Locked Down After Report Of Person Brandishing Gun: Batavia Police
Police didn't find the offender or car after a search Thursday morning but said there was no known direct threat to either nearby school.

BATAVIA, IL — Two Batavia schools were placed on lockdown Thursday morning after police were advised a person in an SUV brandished what appeared to be a black handgun toward another car, according to an alert.
Batavia officers were dispatched at 10:48 a.m. to the area of Randall Road and West Wilson Street after receiving a report of a person with a gun. Detectives searched the area but weren't able to locate the offender or car.
The person was last seen driving eastbound on Wilson Street, officials said.

Due to the proximity to the schools and the car's reported direction of travel, Batavia High School and H.C. Storm Elementary School were placed on "secure" status, meaning the schools' perimeters were secured, and no person was allowed to enter or leave the building.
The report of the person with a gun happened about a mile and a half from H.C. Storm and less than a mile from Batavia High School.

Classes proceeded as usual until the status ended and normal business resumed. Police said at no time was there a known direct threat to either school.
