Chick-Fil-A Turns in 2 Suspected Counterfeit $20 Bills to Police

Police reports: Batavia Chick-Fil-A employees think two $20 bills they received recently might not be coin of the realm.

An unknown offender passed two counterfeit $20 bills at Chick Fil A, 185 N. Randall Road, according to a Batavia police report filed at 1:05 p.m. March 18.

But were the bills really counterfeit?

"We're not sure at this point," Batavia Detective Sgt. Shawn Mazza said. "The case is still under investigation."

Mazza said standard operating procedure is to turn the bills over to federal service agents to see if the bills are legitimate.

"Usually, we get results back within about 60 days," he said.

In late February, Rosati's Pizza in Batavia turned in a suspected counterfeit $100 bill. In that case, a Rosati's employee told police a subject ordered a pizza and paid with a $100 bill, then was given $84 back in change.

When the subject didn't return to pick up the pizza, “it was suspected the bill was counterfeit,” reports said.

Mazza said the two events likely are unrelated, and the feds have yet to determine whether the $100 bill was authentic.

"We’re not seeing a connection," Mazza said. "We sometimes can tell by the serial numbers, but we've had no results back from that case, either."
