Driver On Several Drugs In Crash Injuring Teen Cyclist On Route 31: PD
The Aurora man involved in the May 31 crash faces several charges, including driving under the influence of an intoxicating compound.
BATAVIA, IL — The driver involved in the May 31 crash that critically injured a teenage bicyclist on Route 31 is facing multiple charges after police say he was driving under the influence of a combination of drugs.
After continuing to investigate the incident, police announced the following charges and citations against Cesar A. Gandarilla, of the 400 block of West New York Street in Aurora.
- Aggravated DUI, causing great bodily harm
- Aggravated DUI, no valid driver's license
- DUI combination drugs, intoxicating compound
- Aggravated use of communications device, causing great bodily harm
- Unlawful use of cannabis, driver
- Numerous traffic citations, including failure to yield and illegal transportation of alcohol
Gandarilla was not injured in the crash, but the teenage boy, who at the time was attempting to cross Batavia Avenue at Union Avenue was critically injured, Patch reported.

Police determined the Aurora man, who was driving a newer model GMC Denali, was traveling south on Batavia Avenue around 2:30 p.m. when he crashed into the teenager.
