Teen Boy Hit While Biking Across Batavia Avenue: Police

The Wednesday afternoon collision is the second time in about a week that a bicyclist was hit while crossing Batavia Avenue.

BATAVIA, IL — A teenage boy sustained critical injuries Wednesday afternoon after a car crashed into him while he was biking across Batavia Avenue, police said.

It's the second time in about a week that a bicyclist was hit while riding on Batavia Avenue, Patch reported. A woman on a bike was exiting Les Arends Forest Preserve to cross Batavia Avenue around 4:40 p.m. May 23 when a minivan crashed into her.

Around 2:29 p.m. Wednesday, the bicyclist was riding west on Union Avenue, crossing the street within the crosswalk, when a newer model GMC Denali, traveling south on Batavia Avenue, crashed into him, according to officials.

None of the SUV's occupants were injured, police said. The teenager was brought to an area hospital for medical care.

Batavia Avenue between Morton and Main streets was shut down to traffic for about two hours Wednesday while police investigated with the help of the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team.
