Batavia Home Uninhabitable After Dumpster Fire Spreads To Residence

The home has now been deemed uninhabitable following the early Monday blaze.

A Dumpster fire quickly spread to a Batavia home early Monday, causing extensive damage to the residence. Fire crews first responded to the home at 38W365 Monterary Drive in Batavia at about 3:30 a.m. Monday. The fire likely started in the Dumpster as a result of a spontaneous combustion of a mix of construction solvents, officials said.

The fire quickly spread to the side and roof of the Monterary Drive home, according to a post on the city of Batavia's Facebook page. All occupants were able to safely get out of the home after a working smoke alarm alerted them to the blaze.

Fire crews battled the blaze from inside and outside the home and an additional 16 fire agencies were called to assist.
