Final Day of Windmillers' Trade Fair in Batavia

Farm-style windmill enthusiasts will gather from the U.S., Canada and Australia on June 14 through 16, 2012 at (BHS) for the 24th Annual International Windmillers' Trade Fair.

Participants will display windmills, swap and sell windmill parts, including windmill weights, and compete in a windmill trivia contest. 

Tours will be offered of Batavia's historic sites, such as the , repurposed windmill factories, and restored windmills located throughout Batavia, including the newest addition to Batavia’s collection, the Pearl windmill, manufactured by the Batavia Wind Mill Company, one of six companies that manufactured windmills in Batavia.

Other local tours will include:

  • The Fabyan Dutch windmill
  • FlagSource, a flag manufacturing company

There will also be a working display of antique farm machinery on the BHS grounds. Windmill art will also be on display from three Batavia grade schools. 

Here is an overview of each day of the fair:

Day 1—Thursday, June 14

Since the opening day of the Trade Fair is Flag Day (June 14), a presentation will be made that day to honor B.J. Cigrand, a Batavia dentist who pushed to make this a national holiday. Registered attendees will enjoy a and ice cream social.

Day 2—Friday, June 15

A Friday, June 15 banquet at the will include a keynote presentation by Helen Walter, an editor of the Windmill Journal of Australia and New Zealand and music by the BHS String Quartet. 

Day 3—Saturday, June 16

"Tour Batavia" is the theme for Saturday, June 16, followed by a farewell celebration meal at BHS with music by the BHS alumni band, B-Town Brass.
