Batavia’s Books Between Bites program welcomes the return of Barbara Kalina to the final program of the season on Thursday, May 17, noon to 1 p.m. at Batavia Public Library to discuss the book “The Jane Austen Book Club” by Karen Joy Fowler.
Batavia education consultant Kalina suggests that Jane Austen had it right, two hundred years ago. Through their characters, great authors move us beyond their murky present into a reasoned understanding of life. Austen’s characters are like us, with the external variables changed. Similarly, Fowler’s characters reveal themselves as they interpret Austen’s characters through their own prisms. They address what all of us ultimately recognize as the essence of our selves: our relationships.
The public is welcomed to this free hour-long program held in the community room at the Batavia Public Library, 10 S. Batavia Avenue. Parking is available in the lot just south and adjacent to the library. People are invited to bring their lunch to eat as they enjoy the presentation and discussion. Food and beverages are available for sale at 10 South Coffee House, located in the library. Lunch can also be pre-ordered and available for pick-up just before the program by calling 630-406-8870.
