Peep Show

Kendall Ertz, artist and owner of Limestone Coffee & Tea and Chris Hodge, artist and art teacher, met a few months ago with the goal of putting together an art show.  The coffee house hosts several artists’ exhibits throughout the year, and coincidentally August 13th was open which is the same time the town of Batavia, IL hosts the “Art in Your Eye” fine arts festival and show.  After visualizing a show that has something to do with eyes, looking and seeing, the title "Peep Show" seemed to encompass everything.

“Peep Show for me is as much about who is looking, as it is about what they are looking at.  I think the title "Peep Show" conjures up something provocative, interesting, and somewhat dark.  It reminds me of the Frederich Nietzsche quotation "If you gaze long into the abyss, the abyss also gazes into..." Hodge said.

"Artists exploring the organ of sight," - a broad description of the exhibit, creates a canvas for a wide range of work.   The uniqueness of the subject matter in “Peep Show” isn’t the only strength of this show, but the variety of artists makes this show a must see. The artists participating in the show include, some local, some not so local, like Kim Rogers who currently lives in Louisiana; some veteran artists like Penny Boedigheimer, and also quite a few artists who are new to the art world.  Neal Leatherman is a local resident who frequents Limestone Coffee & Tea, and he decided to make some artwork especially for this show.  This is Neal's first show, and his return to art since high school.  Hodge’s sister, Ariel Hodge is also fairly new to the art scene. The Hodge’s will be sharing a studio space at Water Street Studios this year.
