Foam In Mahoney Creek? Batavia Officials Work To Determine Cause

The material that was released is an aqueous film-forming foam used to extinguish liquid fires, officials said.

BATAVIA, IL — A mysterious white foam filled in Mahoney Creek last week, prompting an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency investigation.

In an update Tuesday afternoon, Batavia officials said a local business is believed to be involved in the discharge that occurred March 8.

On Monday, city staff provided the IEPA with a safety data sheet that names the released material: Ansulite Low Viscosity 3x3 AR-AFF Foam Concentrate, an aqueous film-forming foam used to extinguish liquid fires. The business believed to be involved in the incident provided the city with the data, according to a news release.
