Kane County To Offer Pfizer Vaccine To Kids At Batavia Hub

BATAVIA, IL — The Kane County Health Department will offer the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine to children ages 5-11 starting Nov. 10 at the Kane Vax Hub in Batavia. Appointments are available leading up to the date.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approved the vaccine for kids Wednesday. The Food and Drug Administration approved the vaccine for children as young as 5 in late October.

The vaccine is given in two doses, three weeks apart. The dose for kids ages 5-11 is about a third of the size of the adult one, Patch reported.

The Kane Vax Hub, located at 501 N. Randall St. in Batavia, also offers booster shots of the Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson vaccine to eligible people. Kids ages 5 to 17 can only receive the Pfizer vaccine and must have a parent or guardian's signature on the consent form in order to get vaccinated.

Officials at the KCHD said parents are encouraged to consult their pediatrician before getting their kids vaccinated.

The vaccination center is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays. Consents forms and registration can be found on the Kane Vax Hub website.
