BATAVIA, IL — Booster shots of the COVID-19 vaccine are available at the Kane Vax Hub in Batavia, and the Kane County Health Department is encouraging appointments for people eligible.

The hub, located at 501 N. Randall St. in a former Sam's Club, is expanding its hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Nov. 3 in order to meet demands for the boosters, officials said in a news release Monday. Regular hours are from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesdays and 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays.

All Illinois residents 12 and older can get vaccinated at the Batavia location, where the Johnson & Johnson, Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are available. There, eligible residents can also mix and match between the three available booster shots as of Oct. 25.

To speed up the check-in process, officials said people should bring their vaccination cards and a filled-out consent form for the vaccine they choose.

People eligible for the booster include those 65 and older and anyone 18 or older who lives in a long-term care setting or has underlying health conditions, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. People 18 or older who work or live in a high-risk setting can also opt to get another dose. To get the booster, people should have received the J&J vaccine two months ago, or the Moderna or Pfizer vaccine six months ago.

People working in high-risk settings include first responders, education and post office staff, and workers in food and agriculture, manufacturing, corrections, public transit, and grocery stores.

The vaccine has yet to be approved for children ages 5 through 11, but Batavia Mayor Jeffery Schielke said in a weekly address to the city Friday that more information may be released Wednesday.

Anyone interested to make an appointment to get vaccinated can do so on the Kane Vax Hub website. More information about the vaccines can be found on the Kane County Health Department's website. Senior citizens needing assistance with appointments can call the hub's line at 855-452-6382.
