Lifeguards Recognized for Saving Boy, 8, From Drowning

The lifeguards helped save an 8-year-old boy last week who went under water at Hall Quarry Beach.

Lifeguards at a Batavia’s Hall Quarry Beach were recognized Tuesday for their quick actions in saving an 8-year-old boy from drowning last week, the Kane County Chronicle reports.

“We very much appreciate all your efforts that day,” Batavia Park Board President said Tuesday as the lifeguards were presented with an “Everyday Heroes” medal.

Paramedics were called to Harold Hall Quarry Beach, 400 S. Water St. in Batavia at 2:34 p.m.on June 10 for a report of a possible drowning, according to a city of Batavia press release.

When they arrived, they found a young boy out of the water and being treated by pool staff. The boy was conscious and breathing.

He was taken to Delnor Community Hospital.

The boy was taking a swimming test when he went under water. Staff immediately pulled the boy from the pool and administered first aid.

“The quick actions and response of the pool staff contributed to the safety of the young swimmer,” according to the news release.

The lifeguards recognized Tuesday included: Riley Balogh, Johnny Robinson, Aaron Cada and Sean Callahan, according to the Kane County Chronicle.

“The guards undergo rigorous water safety trainings four days a week so they are well prepared for situations like this one,” said Executive Director Allison Niemela. “We are grateful there is a happy ending to this story.”
