Man Exposed Himself To Pre-Teen Girls At School Playground: Batavia PD

The man, from St. Charles, was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, public indecency and disorderly conduct.

BATAVIA, IL — A St. Charles man is accused of exposing himself to pre-teen girls at a Batavia playground near H.C. Storm School's playground area, Batavia police said.

The incident occurred at about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the school, 305 N. Van Nortwick Ave.

A father reported his daughter and her friend, both younger than 13, encountered a man near the playground when he exposed himself to them, according to police.

He contacted police about 30 minutes later, prompting officers to search for the man. They didn't find him on school grounds but accessed surveillance footage that showed the incident.

Police said the man, identified as 36-year-old Matthew Mroz, had last been seen riding his bike south on North Van Nortwick Avenue.

On Monday, officers located a person who matched the description and took him into custody at the police department for further investigation. Police charged him with five offenses after consulting the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, officials said.

Mroz, of the 5N400 block of Paddock Lane, was charged with sexual exploitation of a child, victim less than 13 years old, public indecency within 500 feet of a school/children present, sexual exploitation of a child, public indecency, and disorderly conduct, according to police.

The St. Charles man is being held at the Kane County Adult Justice Center.
