New Emergency Notification System Launched In Batavia
Locals and business owners are encouraged to sign up for Alert Batavia to receive messages about emergencies, including criminal activity.
BATAVIA, IL — Batavia launched a new notification system that will enable law enforcement to notify locals of emergencies, officials said Thursday.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to sign up for Alert Batavia to receive targeted messages about criminal activities, lockdowns, extended power outages, hazardous material threats, public health crises, active shooters, missing or endangered people, road closures, and other incidents.
Alert Batavia, powered by CodeRED, works via telephone, mobile, SMS, email and more. Batavia public safety and public works staff will be responsible for sending the alerts. Subscribers will choose what types of alerts they want to receive as well as the delivery method.

Officials said plans are also underway to give attendees of special events, including Fourth of July fireworks or Windmill Fest, the option to register to receive notifications about event changes or emergencies.

Locals can sign up online or text "ALERTBATAVIA" to 24639.
