Police Warn Of Street Closures During 4th Of July Fireworks Show

Food vendors and entertainment will begin at Engstrom Park starting at 5 p.m. ahead of the Sky Concert set to start at 9:30 p.m. July 4.

BATAVIA, IL — With the 4th of July just around the corner, it's time to start planning activities for celebration. Ahead of an events-filled day on Independence Day in Batavia, police warn residents of closed streets and extra congestion.

To celebrate the country's birthday, celebrations will begin at 5 p.m. at Engstrom Park, 326 Millview Drive, and the Sky Concert will start at 9:30 p.m. The best observation areas in town are at the park and at Batavia High School.

Police said alcohol, dogs, sparklers and civilian-operated fireworks will not be allowed at the events.

Before the event begins, parking will be available at Batavia High School's lot, while handicap parking can be found in the lot at Batavia Covenant Church, 1314 Main St. Main Street, between Feece Drive and Pitz Lane, will be closed to all traffic once both lots are full, according to police. Traffic will be detoured to Wilson Street.

Once the fireworks show ends around 10 p.m., drivers will be driving through the west side of Batavia, so police are alerting drivers ahead of time to expect significant traffic delays.

Throughout the evening, areas that will be most significantly impacted include:

  • Randall Road, from Main Street to Fabyan Parkway
  • West Wilson Street and Main Street around Batavia High School
  • Route 31 through downtown Batavia

Drivers should allow extra time when driving through the areas and use alternate routes when possible, police said.
