Batavia Fire Leaves Home Uninhabitable
Fire officials said the home is uninhabitable, but the residents escaped without harm.

BATAVIA, IL — UPDATE: A fire broke out in a Batavia home Tuesday, displacing the family who lived there. The fire started at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the 1300 block of Surrey.
Seven fire engines and two trucks arrived at the scene to find heavy smoke, Battalion Chief Mark Cwinski said in a news release. Officials say the fire started in the basement and spread to the home's first floor.
Fire crews extinguished the blaze in less than an hour. The residents, who were home at the time, were able to get out without harm.

The home is currently uninhabitable, Cwinski said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Original post: Firefighters are at the scene of a reported structure fire in Batavia. The fire broke out in a home in the 1300 block of Surrey shortly after 9:30 p.m., according to a post from Tri-State Fire Alert.

The fire was initially a general alarm fire, but was upgraded to a special alarm fire at approximately 10 p.m.
Batavia fire officials have yet confirmed this report.
Patch reached out to the Batavia Fire Department for more confirmation and more info, but did not immediately receive a reply.
