Shots Fired On Valentine's Day Were Unintentional: Batavia Police

An investigation into the shooting resulted in a 35-year-old Batavia man being charged with a felony and a misdemeanor.

BATAVIA, IL — A firearm was unintentionally fired on Valentine's Day in a Batavia apartment, police said.

Officers were dispatched at 7:25 p.m. Wednesday to the residence in the 1100 block of West Wilson Street for a report of shots fired. A resident said they heard a "loud pop" and found holes in their wall. Police examined what appeared to be bullet holes and determined due to the trajectory of the holes that they came from another apartment, according to a news release.

Police found two men inside the neighboring apartment and after interviewing them, officers learned a firearm was unintentionally fired while being handled, officials said.
