Unusual Thefts Include 'Quick Change,' Stolen Trailer and a 30-Gallon Garbage Can

A quick-change transaction is when a scammer pays with a big bill and then convinces the clerk to give back more change than was due.

Some unusual thefts were found in this week's Batavia blotter, including a stolen trailer and a "quick-change" transaction. 

Theft Over $500—Someone took an iPhone valued at $800 as well as $6 in cash from a student at Rotolo Middle School, 1501 S. Raddant Road, reports said. The report was filed around 1:11 a.m. April 28.

Theft Under $500—Someone took a Veolia 30-gallon garge can on wheels valued at $100. The report was made around 9:01 a.m. April 24 in the 300 block of North Jefferson Street, reports said.

Theft Under $500—Someone did a “quick-change transaction” around 9 p.m. April 23 at Mobil gas station, 2074 Main St., reports said. The report was filed around 11:23 a.m. April 24. A quick change is when a scammer pays with a big bill and then distracts the cashier to give back more change than is due.

Motor-Vehicle Theft—Police report a trailer taken, valued at $10,000, sometime around 1:44 a.m. April 20, at 1500 North Raddant Road. (AGCO) The report was filed at 9:23 a.m. April 22.

Theft Under $500—Patio chairs valued at $30 were taken from the 1100 block of McClurg Drive sometime prior to 8:12 p.m. April 22, reports said.
