CHICAGO (MOUNT GREENWOOD) — Eleven Marist High School students who participated in a senior services project at St. Margaret of Scotland Church have been ordered to stay home for 14 days after a child from the church tested positive for the new coronavirus.

According to a letter sent to parents, Marist officials were notified late Thursday evening by the superintendent of Archdiocese schools of the St. Margaret student's COVID-19 diagnosis. Marist officials were contacted by the Illinois Department of Public Health, who recommended that the 11 students stay home from school for the next 14 days.

"Teachers, students, teammates and family members who came into contact with our eleven students — but did not have direct exposure to an individual with a confirmed case of COVID-19 — do NOT have restrictions at this time, per the IDPH and the Chicago Department of Public Health. They can attend work and school, as long as they are not sick."

Marist will be on spring break, as scheduled, from March 16 to 20. Beginning March 23, and in accordance with the Archdiocese of Chicago, Marist's campus will be closed, and the school will transition to e-learning. Information regarding technology, daily schedule, and other details will be emailed to parents and students.
