16-Year-Old Charged in Shooting of 7-Year-Old in Morgan Park

The child who was shot is now in good condition at Comer Children's Hospital.

A 16-year-old boy shot 7-year-old Elijah Dace as he walked home from school in Morgan Park on Wednesday, according to Chicago Police, and now he faces felony charges. On Thursday, police said the teen-ager was charged with felony aggravated battery and discharge of a firearm. Initially, witnesses described the shooter as younger, perhaps 12 or 13.

The 7-year-old was near Lamb Park at 109th Street and South Loomis when he took a bullet in the shoulder at about 3:30 Wednesday after two gunman opened fire. Dace was not the target, police said. The child was picked up by a neighbor and driven to a house, where they called police. Dace was taken to Comer Children’s Hospital where he’s now listed in good condition.
