19th Ward Dedicates CFD Billy Grant Way
North Beverly residents gather to remember fallen firefighter on tenth anniversary of his death.

CHICAGO, IL -- Residents gathered Saturday afternoon to dedicate a North Beverly street in memory of a fallen Chicago firefighter.
William Grant was 44 when he died in the line of duty on March 23, 2007. Grant and his crew were en route to a call when their rig was clipped by a school bus, causing it to tip over. Grant was killed and four fellow firefighters were injured in the accident.
“Bill” or “Billy” Grant was recalled as a neighborhood guy with a passion and zest for life. Grant’s brother. Tom, recalled how and his brother rode their bikes on the 9000 block of Hoyne Avenue. Later, Billy Grant and his wife, Sharon, bought their “dream” home on the block where he grew up.

Ald. Matt O’Shea, Chicago Fire Commissioner Jose A. Santiago and CFD John Patton, who rode on Engine 51 offered recollections. Father Larry Sullivan from Grant’s home parish Christ the King led prayers.
Grant’s children Kristin, Caroline and Danny, presented the honorary street named for their father.
