Thousands Without Power Beverly, Oak Lawn, Evergreen Park Area
A powerful derecho storm ripped through the Chicago area, knocking out power to thousands of south suburban residents.
Commonwealth Edison reports that there are currently 90,000 customers without power service, including 5,000 in the Oak Lawn. Evergreen Park and Beverly-Mount Greenwood area when a powerful storm ripped through the Chicago area. Commonwealth Edison is working to restore the outages.
Ald. Matt O’Shea, whose 19th Ward includes the Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park neighborhoods, said there have been many reports of downed trees, tree limbs, downed wires and power outages. 19th Ward residents can report tree issues by calling 3-1-1 (for convenience use the Chi311 app from your smartphone or tablet).
Commander Arthur Clark, the emergency management services coordinator for the Oak Lawn Police Department, said 4,000 were without power Monday evening. Widespread outages were reported throughout Oak Lawn.

Commonwealth Edison workers were removing tree limbs from high voltage wires after the storm passed through. Clark did not have an estimated time for when power would be restored.
"If you have an outage report it to ComEd," he said.

Evergreen Park police had blocked off a portion of 91st Street between California and Western Avenues. Evergreen Plaza and Evergreen Marketplace had closed earlier in the day as a precautionary measure following a night of unrest along Chicago's Magnificent Mile.
