6 Morgan Park Seniors Named State Scholars

Six Morgan Park Academy seniors have become part of an elite group to be selected as state scholars by the Illinois Student Assistance Commission. Those named as 2019-2020 state scholars are: Halle Berghoff of Beverly, Angela Cabrera of Orland Park, Bryan Coronado of Garfield Ridge, Zara Hashmi of New Lenox, Ireland Lawrence of Morgan Park, and Maya Lopez of Monee.

The local students recognized for their outstanding academic achievement are among about 10 percent of Illinois high school seniors selected as state scholars, according to a news release. The students are selected based on exemplary ACT or SAT scores and/or class rank at the end of the junior year.

This year, 35 percent of MPA seniors who live in Illinois were selected. International students are not eligible.

In the past eight years, MPA has had 63 State Scholars.
