Ald. Matt O'Shea Makes Cameo in BAC's 'Crazy for You'

Matt O'Shea debuts in "Crazy for You" Aug. 7-9 at the Beverly Arts Center, but says his 8-year-old daughter is the star to watch.

Alderman Matt O’Shea, along with his eight-year-old daughter, Eileen, will be hitting the boards in the Beverly Arts Center’s staging of “Crazy for You” this weekend.

This 1992 high-energy musical comedy is based on the George Gershwin 1930 musical “Girl Crazy.”

Presented by the BAC Professional Theatre Series and BAC Star Productions, “Crazy for You” features fabulous dance numbers and classic Gershwin music, including such memorable hits as “I Can’t Be Bothered Now,” “Bidin’ My Time,” “I Got Rhythm,” and “They Can’t Take That Away from Me.”

The 19th Ward alderman will be making a cameo appearance in the musical as “Perkins.” Eileen O’Shea is playing a chauffeur.

“Basically I’m a gofer/butler character,” O’Shea said. “I’m one of the main character’s assistants.”

Father and daughter have been rehearsing throughout the summer.

“I’ve been going to a lot of practices because I’m nervous,” O’Shea said. “I don’t want to ruin the play. We’ve been practicing every day after work.”

O’Shea says his daughter is the star to watch.

“My daughter Eileen has been a star since the day she was born,” the proud father said on Facebook..

Performances for “Crazy for You” 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, August 7 and August 8; and 2 p.m. Sunday, in the Baffes Theatre at the Beverly Arts Center, 2407 W. 111th St., Chicago.

Tickets are $19 for BAC members and $21 for non-members, and can be purchased online on the BAC website.
