Alternate Reality Has Specials For Free Comic Book Day

CHICAGO, IL — Saturday is Free Comic Book Day at comic book stores throughout the nation, and a local shop in the city's Mount Greenwood neighborhood has quite a few specials going on as part of what comic book retailers call the best day of the year outside of Christmas.

All 52 of this year's titles that are a part of Free Comic Book Day will be available at Alternate Reality, 3149 W. 111th St. when the business opens at 9 a.m. on Saturday, May 5. Anyone who shows up is welcome to take one copy each of any or all of the books being offered as part of the special day.

Supplies are offered on a first come/first served basis, and store management says they don't expect anything to be available at the end of the day.

But Free Comic Book Day is more than just those free comics at Alternate Reality. The store has outlined several other specials that will take place that day.

Alternate Reality has taken part in the nationwide Free Comic Book Day phenomenon since it started in 2002, and every year they put together "a super Rafflemania package." This year, that prize is Season2 of the AMC hit "Into the Badlands," of which ten will be raffled off at a $24.99 value each.

Also, all new comics will be 15 percent off and the stores's "Books of the Week": Avengers #1 and Betty & Veronica Friends Forever #1 will be 25 percent off.

Items that will be marked at 50 percent off will be displayed on the sidewalk outside the store on 111th Street, weather permitting.

Family entertainment at the store will include caricature artist Ernie Posey and heroes and villains that will be dressed up for a "meet and greet" for all ages.
