CHICAGO — Record Store Day has become a hit nationwide over the past decade and is clearly the biggest day of the year at the record stores in Chicago like Beverly Records on the Far South Side. And owners and employees at the store located at 11612 S. Western Ave. say this year's Record Store Day celebration on Saturday, April 13 may just be the biggest yet.

That's due in part to the Saturday release of the "Industrial Accident: Story of Wax Trax" soundtrack that goes along with the film that will premier at the House of Vans later that day. John Dreznes, whose family has owned Beverly Records since 1967, says only a handful of record stores in Chicago were picked to carry select copies of the record and that Beverly Records is one of the lucky ones selected.

The Industrial Accident: Story of Wax Trax movie is a documentary focused on the rise of industrial music in Sweden, and then the United States, in the late 1980's and early 1990's. It will tell the story of how Wax Trax, a small record shop in Chicago's Lincoln Park neighborhood, was the first to import the genre of music to the United States and quickly became the number one spot to get industrial music in the country.

With this album release, the phenomenon is again quickly gaining steam nationwide, and on Saturday only the select few record stores in Chicago of which Beverly Records is one will have the soundtrack in stock.

The thing is, though, you are likely not to get one. Unless you are among the first in line outside the store several hours before it opens. And even then, there will only be a limited amount of copies.

"We are going to sell out right away," Dreznes said.

Jack Dreznes, John's father and owner of the store, says the item is so popular that if there's 20 copies at the store, "the first 20 people in line are going to get them."

"We've had people call from Florida and Memphis saying that they will be here for this," Jack Dreznes said. "They (the record copies) will be gone in 15 minutes."

"The promotion for this item is like nothing I've ever seen before."

Those who are lucky enough to get their hands on the soundtrack early on Saturday will also get two free tickets to see the movie premier that night. The only way to see the premier is to buy one of the records.

"This release will bring back the nostalgia for that type of music," John Dreznes said. "Industrial is not often the genre people talk about when discussing the music from the 80's and 90's, but it was really, really big back then and this will bring that all back into focus."

As always, Beverly Records will offer 20 percent off all used records throughout the day on Saturday and offer lunch to those in the store around noon.

And while some industrial music lovers will be in line as early as 3 a.m. or even midnight, the line that will form along Western Avenue will be even more noticeable closer to the time the store opens at 8 a.m. A live video feed from outside the store will be shared on both the store's Facebook and Twitter pages.

The store has ordered more records than they ever have in the past for Record Store Day, John Dreznes said.

"We are expecting it to be a fun and busy day," he said.
