Block Named In Honor Of Fallen Firefighter In Training
Dozens gathered over the weekend to mark the 10500 block of Central Park Avenue in Mount Greenwood as "Honorary FF Steve McNamee Way."

CHICAGO, IL - A street in Mount Greenwood was honored in memory of a fallen firefighter in training and former suburban police officer over the weekend. Dozens gathered on Saturday to mark the honoring of the 10500 block of Central Park Avenue as "Honorary FF Steve McNamee Way."
McNamee was just two weeks shy of graduating from the Chicago Fire Academy when a tragic training accident ended his life at only 36 years old on Nov.24, 1993.
Before training to become a Chicago firefighter, McNamee was a police officer for the ConRail Railroad and then for the village of Hickory Hills, according to the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. He left behind a wife, two young children, 11 brothers and sisters and both his parents.
