Blues Legend Plays At Beverly Arts Center Friday

John Primer will return to his home neighborhood with The Real Deal Blues Band.

CHICAGO, IL - A Chicago Blues legend comes home Friday. John Primer and the Real Deal Blues Band will perform at the Beverly Arts Center at 8 p.m. on July 14.

Primer has been on the Chicago Blues music scene since the 1960s when he migrated to the city as a teenager. For years he led the house band at Theresa’s Lounge, played with other legends like Buddy Guy and help make iconic venues like the Checkerboard Lounge in Hyde Park.

His journey comes back to the same street he lived on as a young man on Friday night.

"I used to live on 111th,” Primer, who now lives in Lindenhurst, told the Daily Southtown. “All my kids and grandkids are still there in the house I used to live in. I know they're all gonna come and see me.”

Primer lived on the Morgan Park side of 111th Street, where the Beverly Arts Center was for years on the campus of Morgan Park Academy.

"I'm a blues man. I can't change it. I just do my shows and try to make people happy," Primer said in the interview with the Southtown.

Tickets for Primer’s show are still available and just $30 for BAC members.

The event will help make the Beverly-Morgan Park the place to be for fun all day. The annual “Bikes And Brews” Beverly Hills Cycling Classic begins at 4 p.m. that day a few blocks to the northeast of the BAC.
