Brother Rice-Mother McAuley Band Brings Home Grand Championship
Wind ensemble takes top honors, concert wins third and best in class for brass and percussion at State of the Art Catholic Band Competition.

CHICAGO, IL -- For the first time in 18 years, the Brother Rice and Mother McAuley Band brought home the Grand Champion title from the 2017 State of the Art Catholic Band Competition.
The band’s wind ensemble was earned grand champion honors for the best performance of the entire competition. This group of fine musicians also earned first place in Class AAA and the best percussion in its class.
Continuing the band’s tradition of high standards, the symphonic band claimed the third place award in Class AA. The Concert Band also rose to the challenge, earning a third place in Class A and best brass in its class.

The State of the Art Catholic Band Competition brings together high school bands from the six Dioceses of the State of Illinois and the Diocese of Gary, Indiana. The Knights of Columbus is proud to have supported this event since its beginning in 1981. The Brother Rice and Mother McAuley Band is comprised of approximately 140 students from both high schools.

The music program will welcome students into an unprecedented four music classes including beggining band, concert band, symphonic band and wind ensemble.
