Calder Cup Comes To Morgan Park Sports Center Wednesday
Beverly native Vincent LoVerde will bring the Calder Cup - the AHL's version of the Stanley Cup - to the neighborhood on Wednesday.

CHICAGO, IL — The Calder Cup, the American Hockey League version of the National Hockey League's Stanley Cup, will come to the Beverly/Morgan Park neighborhood on Wednesday. It will make its way here via Vincent LoVerde, who won the trophy with the AHL's Toronto Marlies this year. LoVerde grew up in the Beverly neighborhood and attended St. Barnabas School and St. Ignatius College Prep before continuing his career at the college and professional levels.
Much like the Stanley Cup, the Calder Cup is kept by all of the players on the winning team for at least one day in the months following the championship win. LoVerde is an assistant captain on the Marlies, a minor league affiliate of the Toronto Maple Leafs of the NHL. He had nine goals and 12 assists in 63 regular season games played this year.
It's his second time hosting the Calder Cup, having previously won the AHL championship in 2015 with the Manchester Monarchs.

To celebrate his win, the neighborhood will hold a "Skate with the Cup" event on Wednesday from 1-3 p.m. at the Morgan Park Sports Center, 11505 S. Western Ave. 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea says all are invited to skate with LoVerde and the Cup during the open skate.
