Catalytic Converter Crooks Targeting Crossover SUVs

Five recent incidents reported in residential streets near 10900 and 11800 blocks of South Western Avenue, cops say.

Crossover SUVs are being targeted in the most recent rash of catalytic converter thefts.

The 22nd Police District reports five such incidents recently taking place in residential streets off of Western Avenue, between the 10900 and 11800 blocks.

Most of the thefts have occurred in the overnight hours between 3 a.m. and 6 a.m.at the following locations:

  • 11100 block of South Artesian Avenue (Honda Element and Kia Sportage)
  • 2300 block of West 111th (Hyundai Tuscon)
  • 10900 block of South Artesian Avenue (Oldsmobile Cutlass)
  • 2400 block West 111th (Pontiac)
  • 11160 block of Campbell (Kia Sportage)

If you hear sawing tools in the middle of the night or cars lingering next to parked vehicles, call 911. Meanwhile, anyone with information regarding these incidents is encouraged to call Area South detectives at 312-747-8273.
