CPD Increase Planned In Mt. Greenwood After Online Threats

Alderman O'Shea tells residents to remain vigilant as the verdict in the Jason Van Dyke murder trial is expected soon.

CHICAGO, IL - The Chicago Police Department is preparing for a wide-range of possibilities that could result from the verdict in the Jason Van Dyke murder trial. They will have an increased presence in Beverly, Mount Greenwood and Morgan Park beginning on Thursday, 19th Ward Ald. Matt O'Shea told residents in an email.

O'Shea's e-mail alert did not mention any specific threats made. But screenshots have been shared on social media of at least two people indicating the Mount Greenwood neighborhood in particular would be targeted with violence. Other specific areas of the city specifically mentioned were Rush Street, Midway and the Magnificent Mile.

Some have indicated plans to hold peaceful demonstrations in various parts of the city, while screenshots of some of the social media posts above show violent plans others have indicated.
