Deadline For Responding To Mail Service Survey Is Tuesday
19th Ward residents have until Tuesday, Aug. 4, to answer if they're satisfied with their mail service on survey.

CHICAGO — 19th Ward neighbors have until Tuesday, Aug. 4, to weigh in on their experiences with mail service after an uptick of complaints about inconsistent mail delivery. Ald. Matt O’Shea and the Beverly Area Planning Association (BAPA) have launched a survey to document neighbors’ experiences.
Throughout the month of July, mailboxes have gone empty in Mount Greenwood and across Chicago. A U.S. Postal Service government liaison blamed service issues on the "challenging times of the COVID-19 pandemic" due to "a fluctuation in employee availability." The liaison also claimed that service complaints dropped by 45 percent July.
O’Shea has requested a hearing about poor mail service before the Chicago City Council, stating that USPS’s response doesn’t jibe with the complaints his office has fielded. U.S. Rep. Dan Lipinski’s (IL-03) office has also weighed in, calling the postal service’s response to a letter from O’Shea, and state lawmakers Sen. Bill Cunningham and Rep. Fran Hurley “insufficient.”

The 6-question survey asks residents if they’re satisfied with their service and components of service, if the quality of mail service has changed since the pandemic and whether they’ve experienced delivery gaps.
So far, O’Shea’s office has received 1,700 responses from residents. Responses will be received up until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 4. Access the survey here.
