Off-Duty Chicago Police Detective and Firefighter Rescue 5 in Capsized Boat
Five rescued in Lake Michigan on South Side. Fifth person found under boat, surviving in air pocket, police say.

Chicago, IL, June 13, 2016 -- An off-duty Chicago police detective and firefighter were enjoying a beautiful summer evening riding their jet skis in the waters of Lake Michigan when they encountered a capsized speedboat.
The two were out on the water last Friday evening when they spotted the capsized watercraft and four people bobbing in the 60-degree water, a police news release said.
After learning there was a fifth person missing, Det. Donovan, of the Area South Detective Division, immediately called 911. He and Chicago firefighter Rylenski Strong quickly sprang into action.
The fifth passenger was found under the board surviving in an air pocket. The detective and firefighter shuttled the passengers to shore where emergency personnel were waiting.
