Families Invited to Mt. Greenwood Chamber's Annual Halloween Safety Walk
This year's Halloween Safety Walk will take place on Friday, Oct. 30. Come get some candy.

Kids are invited to come and haunt businesses along 111th Street at the Mt. Greenwood Chamber of Commerce’s 20th annual ‘Halloween Safety Walk,’ from 2 to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 30.
Businesses along 111th Street from Sacramento to Drake will be passing out the sweet stuff to kids 10 and under (although we don’t think businesses will be checking IDs). Last year, the streets were swarming with over 2,200 kids.
More than 7,000 maps of participating businesses have been distributed to Mt. Greenwood elementary schools. Participating businesses will have an 8X11 orange pumpkin hanging in the window.

“Even moms and dads and the dogs dress up and walk with their children,” said the chamber’s executive director Darlene Myers. “We also have doggie treats. We don’t forget the dogs.”
Although the Halloween Safety Walk is typically held on Halloween, when the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the walk takes place on Friday to accommodate businesses that are closed for the weekend.

Chicago Police Officers Dawn Crescent and Dan Hooker will escort trick-or-treaters safely across 111th Street and Kedzie Ave.
“The little ones come out early but after school the big ones come and it’s fantastic,” Myers said.
The event is free.
