Five Marist Seniors Named Chick Evans Scholars

Students from Beverly, Mt. Greenwood, Evergreen Park and Palos Heights receive prestigious caddy scholarships.

CHICAGO, IL -- Marist High School put five seniors on the boards -- Griffin Farrelly, Patrick Keffer, Brian Kettering, Matt Kettering, and Brendan Mullen—who have received the prestigious Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship.

Farrelly, of West Beverly, has caddied for three years at Beverly Country Club. He will attend the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana this fall. He is considering majoring in finance. He has been a student ambassador while at Marist, among other activities.

Evergreen Park’s Keffer has been a caddy at Ridge Country Club for four years. He will also attend University of Illinois, and major in economics. He has been a member of the golf, volleyball, and football teams during his time at Marist, while participating in student ambassadors and student council.

Brothers Brian and Matt Kettering, of Mt. Greenwood, caddy at Beverly Country Club, and will attend Marquette University. Brian plans to major in nursing, while Matt will enter the school’s pre-dentistry program. Brian has participated in volleyball, Marist Youth (the school’s service club), student ambassadors, and Relay for Life. Matt has been a member of Marist Youth, student ambassadors, and Relay for Life.

Mullen, of Palos Heights, has caddied for five years at Beverly Country Club. He will attend Indiana University next fall, where he will major in finance. Mullen has participated in track and volleyball while at Marist.

Over the past ten years, 25 Marist seniors have been named Chick Evans scholars.

The Chick Evans Caddie Scholarship provides full tuition and housing college for golf caddies, and is renewable for up to four years. To be eligible to apply for the scholarship, all applicants must have a strong caddie record, excellent academics, demonstrated financial need, and outstanding character. Applicants are evaluated and compete on the above criteria for the limited number of awards given annually.
