Former Chicago Police Department Employee Gets 2 Years for Stealing Cash from Evidence

Woman had been 19-year civilian employee of police department. Convicted of stealing city-owned property and cash, prosecutors said.

A former Chicago Police Department civilian employee was sentenced to two years in prison for stealing money and personal property from the department’s evidence section, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office announced.

Pamela Brown, 59, was previously convicted of two Class 3 felony counts of official misconduct stealing city-owned property from the department’s evidence section, including foreign currency, jewelry and a camcorder.

Brown had been a 19-year employee of the Chicago Police Department. An internal investigation after Brown was captured on video stealing numerous items from property inventories, prosecutors alleged.

Chicago Police Department Internal Affairs launched an internal investigation in which $200 was placed in prisoners’ forfeited property, which Brown would have been required to turn over to her supervisor.

When Brown failed to turn in the money and other items to her supervisor, she was taken into custody as she was leaving work, according to the charges. Prosecutors said the money and stolen property was found in Brown’s possession.

Cook County Judge Clayton Crane sentenced Brown to the two-year prison term today during a hearing at the Leighton Criminal Courts Building in Chicago.
